The Poverty Transition Initiative (PTI) is proud to announce a collaborative regional push alongside community-based organizations, non-governmental organizations, and local grassroots networks across East Africa to launch the East African Zero Waste Hub.
This transformative initiative unites key regional stakeholders—including the Hope Givers Programme (HOGIP), End Plastic Pollution (Uganda), Nipe Fagio (Tanzania), and the DRC Green Gold Foundation—in a shared commitment to environmental sustainability, circular economy solutions, and climate resilience.
By bridging local grassroots action with broader municipal frameworks, the coalition focuses on:
• Decentralized Composting & Waste Segregation: Empowering communities to divert organic waste from landfills and implement source-separation practices.
• Urban Agroforestry & Green Livelihoods: Equipping women and youth with practical training to restore ecosystems and build sustainable income streams.
• Cross-Border Advocacy: Scaling grassroots zero-waste strategies to combat plastic pollution and foster thriving, climate-resilient ecosystems throughout the region.
Together, these organizations are transforming waste into opportunity, championing sustainable resource use, and driving long-lasting environmental change from the ground up.
